The Best Of 2020. Top50. 11 - 20

20. Burrito Panza "Autosabotaje" (p)El Genio Equivocado

"Autosabotaje", the 4th LP of the Albacete-based quartet, is the logical progression of their previous work "El Nuevo Frente Frio". And just like its predecessor, this album is the gentle and intimate take on dreampop/shoegaze's most intelligent version.

18. Marcos Y Molduras "Te Espero En Casa" (p)Discos de Kirlian

The twee pop revivalist girl/boy duo sings odes to daily grind and troubled (or only allegedly troubled) relationships accompanied by drum machine and - surprisingly intense for this kind of music - guitars.

17. Maria Jaume "Fins A Maig No Revisc" (p)Bankrobber

The blueprint of Pau Vallve's production is evident on this LP by 20 years old singer/songwriter from Mallorca. But what amazes me the most is the fact that the songwriting is incredibly competent for a persont in her adolescent years. The bright and beautiful, this album is such a debut most of young songsmiths could only dream of.

16. Dena "Ezer Sentitzeko" (p)self-released

With Berri Txarrak calling it a day and Lisabo rarely coming up for air, I do believe the torch of the best 'loud rock' band from Basque Country #rightnow should be passed to these folks.

15. Matsu "Nosotros" (p)WeAreWolves

I've been using the tagline "trippy, druggy, atmospheric" with negative connotations for years. This time I proudly use it heaving in mind something good. The best electronic album this side of Combray's "Ullapool"

14. Not A Number "A Life Made Of Wood" (p)El Hombre Bala

13. Salina "Lava" (p)Saltamarges/ Discos Delejos/ Beauty Fool

Let's put it simple: the best post-hardcore album of the year.

12. Keep Out "Minimal Songs About The End Of The World" (p)Fakie

This is how the huge fuck you to the world should sound like: dirty, noisy, chaotic, emotionaly charged, oozing with angst and anger lo-fi (I'd rather say, no-fi) manifesto.

11. Super Gegant "Una Casa Als Aiguamolls" (p)The Indian Runners

This album was released in the end of the year 2019 so it didn't get a chance to enter the 2019's annual polls. But this well-balanced blend of jangle pop, post punk, Superchunk and present-day Catalan indie rock surely deserves it.

Bay City Killers "Delivery Of Goods"

Bay City Killers "Delivery Of Goods" (p)2020 The Braves Records
They’re from Mallorca, but they might’ve arisen from any part of flyover country in America. Their music resides in the vast territory that unites the four decades of alternative rock. This album was recorded with Eric Fuentes as a producer, and then mixed and mastered at Ultramarinos Costa Brava studios by the brothers Victor & Santi Garcia (even if you haven't delved much into Catalan rock music you outta know that these credits are kind of unmistakable quality mark). At times their sound gets pretty close to that of Buckcherry (I’d also mention The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady as the reference points) – but if the Buckcherry are more of a party then Bay City Killers are more of a statement. It’s not a fiesta, it’s a troubled man in a troubled world. The frontman Jose Serrano sings like he really cares. Like he FUCKING cares. Like he lives out every line of the lyrics, and it really should move the listener. These are the kinds of songs we all really need now as the times we live in are strange.

Bay City Killers "The Distance"

Bay City Killers "The Distance" (p)2017 Red B Records
The inflammable rock band from Mallorca - fast, loud and ballsy. Bay City Killers go full throttle from the very beginning of "The Distance" and drive ahead with the fast and furious rhythm section, edgy guitars and the cracked voice of the frontman Jose Serrano at maximum speed until the end of the road. The guys position themselves alternative/punk, but their alternative/punk contains a good doze of southern rock so the album sounds pretty american. Pretty midwestern states kind of american. Kinda highway drivin', roadside bar hard drinkin'. I'd like to see them live cos I bet live Bay City Killers easily could get the water boiled remotely.

The best tracks: Lights On The Road, The Grave Of The Fireflies, Walking On The Edge
